Deadline for Party Affiliation Changes
Party Affiliation Deadline – Why It Matters
The last day to change your party affiliation is March 31.
In Oklahoma, political parties determine who may vote in their primary elections. Because of this, a voter’s party affiliation can determine which ballots are available to them during primary elections.
What This Means for Independent Voters
Voters registered as Independent should be aware that:
-
In many elections, only registered members of a political party may vote in that party’s primary election.
-
Some political parties may choose to allow Independent voters to participate in their primaries, while others may not.
-
If a party does not allow Independent voters to participate, those voters would not receive a ballot for that party’s primary election.
For this reason, Independent voters who wish to vote in a party’s primary election must change their party affiliation before the March 31 deadline.
Our goal is simple: we want every eligible voter to be able to cast a ballot in the elections that matter to them.
Extended Hours to Serve Voters
To make sure all voters have the opportunity to update their registration before the deadline, the Rogers County Election Board will remain open until midnight on March 31.
This extended time is offered to accommodate voters who may not be able to visit the office during normal business hours.
Voters may also update their voter registration through the Oklahoma Voter Portal.
